Riserva Selva di Paliano, Frosinone

Lazio

The Selva di Paliano near Frosinone was a private hunting reserve of the Colonna family since the 16th century — the strict preservation of the forest for hunting accidentally created one of the finest old-growth cerro oak (Quercus cerris) forests in Lazio. Fallow deer roam freely; the forest floor has abundant porcini in October. The reserve was donated to the province in the 1980s.
