Piano delle Ginestre, Capracotta
Molise
Capracotta (1,421 m) in the upper Molise Apennines holds the world record for 24-hour snowfall (256 cm in 2015). The surrounding Piano delle Ginestre is a wide plateau with beech forest and open meadow. Wolf tracks are found on virtually every winter walk. Apennine chamois from the adjacent National Park are regularly sighted. The wildflower meadows in June are exceptional.
