Riserva Naturale Lago di Pignola

Just south of Potenza, this reservoir and its reed-fringed margins have been protected as an oasis for nesting and migrating birds, including little grebes and marsh harriers. An easy path circles most of the shoreline, popular with local families for a quick evening walk. The surrounding hills carry a patchwork of small farms and oak woodland typical of the Potenza uplands.
