Riserva Ghirardi, Alta Val Taro

Emilia-Romagna

The Riserva Naturale Integrale Ghirardi near Borgotaro is one of the strictest nature reserves in Emilia-Romagna — old-growth oak, hornbeam and field maple with no active management for 60 years. The reserve borders are open for walking on the perimeter trail; the interior is left completely wild. It is one of the very few primary forests in the Apennines watershed. Wild boar are extremely abundant.
