The Riserva Naturale Regionale del Rio Torsero near Ceriale in western Liguria is a Pliocene marine deposit exposed on a hillside — 3.5 million years ago this was the sea floor. Shark teeth, whale ribs, gastropods and bivalves are visible in the yellow sandstone walls. The reserve has a small museum. One of the finest accessible Pliocene marine fossil sites in Italy.
