Casse d'Espansione del Secchia, Reggio Emilia

The Casse d'Espansione del Secchia near Rubiera (RE) are flood control basins on the Secchia river that have become Emilia's most important inland wetland. In winter the basins hold 10,000+ waterfowl — greater white-fronted goose, bean goose and tundra swan all occur. Bittern booms in the reedbeds in April. The flat dyke circuit is completely suitable for dogs.
