Biviere di Gela Wetland

Sicily

The Biviere di Gela is a shallow coastal lagoon near Gela that attracts up to 20,000 waterbirds in winter — the most important winter wetland in Sicily. Flamingos, spoonbills, glossy ibis and the rare white-headed duck are all regular. The lagoon is also one of only two places in Sicily where the European pond turtle survives.
