From the 1843 opening of Italy's first bathing establishment through Federico Fellini's nostalgic postwar memories of it, Rimini effectively invented the Italian beach holiday as a national institution. The beach today runs as an unbroken strip of numbered stabilimenti from Marina Centro north to Rivabella and south to Miramare, backed by the old town's Roman arch and bridge.
