Rifugio Federico Chabod, Valsavarenche

From Pravieux the path zig-zags up pasture and then moraine to Rifugio Chabod, perched with a full view of the Gran Paradiso glacier tumbling off the 4,061 m summit. It is the climbers' base for the normal route but a magnificent hard walk in its own right, with ibex on the moraines.
