Aosta Valley
Rifugio Benevolo (2,285 m) in Valgrisenche sits at the foot of the Rutor glacier — the largest glacier in the western Aosta Valley (4 km²). The ascent from La Bonne crosses old stone-walled farm terraces and larches to open alp. Bouquetin (ibex) herds of 20–30 animals graze the surrounding slopes and are easily approached. The refuge is one of the oldest in the Aosta Valley (1882).
