Pulo di Altamura

The Pulo is the largest doline in the Murgia — half a kilometre across and 75 m deep — its steep sides holding Neolithic cave dwellings and the ruins of an 18th-century Bourbon saltpetre factory. A rim path circles it, with the treeless Alta Murgia grassland all around.
