Porto Flavia is one of the most extraordinary industrial monuments in Italy — a pair of tunnels bored into a 200 m sea cliff in 1924, ending in a gallery from which a mechanical arm loaded ore directly into ships below. The surrounding Costa Verde has some of Sardinia's wildest beaches including the dune desert of Piscinas.
