Ponte Romano, Pont-Saint-Martin

Built in the 1st century BC on the road to Gaul, this beautifully preserved Roman bridge leaps the Lys torrent in one 31-metre span — for centuries the widest Roman arch in the Alps. The village around it, named for the saint who (legend says) tricked the devil into building it, has riverside walks under the vineyards.
