Ponte dei Saraceni & the Simeto lava gorge, Adrano
Sicily
Between Adrano and Bronte the Simeto squeezes through columns and chaos of dark lava; the "Saracen bridge", rebuilt by the Normans on Roman/Arab footings, throws a high humpback across it. Paths follow the river past pothole pools and prickly-pear terraces.
