The Pont d'Aël in the gorge above Aymavilles is one of the most remarkable Roman engineering works in the Alps — a double-story aqueduct bridge built in 3 BC. The upper gallery carried water to the Roman city of Augusta Praetoria (Aosta); the lower arch is the pedestrian bridge. The inscription records the construction. The gorge is spectacular. Dogs on leash on the narrow gorge path.
