The Parco Nazionale del Vesuvio has been recovering its pine and oak forest since the last eruption in 1944. The Bosco di Starza walk enters the forest zone below the summit cone through a landscape of secondary regrowth on ancient lava. The Vesuvio wine DOC vineyards (Lacryma Christi) begin at the park boundary.
