Abetone — Pistoia Mountains
Tuscany
The Montagna Pistoiese culminates at Abetone (1,388 m), Tuscany's main ski resort. In summer the walking is exceptional — beech and silver fir forest, open ridge with views into Emilia-Romagna, and a network of old smuggling routes between Tuscany and the Duchy of Modena (the watershed was the border). The cheese and chestnut culture is distinct.
