Piramidi di Terra del Renon

These slender columns of glacial till, each topped by a protective boulder that slowed erosion of the softer earth beneath, rise eerily out of the forest near Collalbo on the Renon (Ritten) plateau. Reachable by the historic Renon cog railway from Bolzano, the site has been a curiosity for visitors since the 19th century, with some pyramids exceeding ten metres in height.
