Pineta di Classe
Emilia-Romagna
This coastal pine forest, planted and managed since at least the Middle Ages for its resin and timber, was admired by both Dante, who is buried nearby in Ravenna, and later Lord Byron, who rode through it on horseback during his years in the city. Today it's part of the Po Delta park, with flat sandy trails winding beneath the tall umbrella pines toward the coast.
