Santuario Sannita di Pietrabbondante
Molise
Pietrabbondante was the religious capital of the Samnite people, Rome's fiercest adversary. The terraced sanctuary (2nd century BC) has one of the best-preserved Italic theatres in existence, cut into the hillside at 1,028 m. From the theatre's upper seats, three mountain ranges are visible simultaneously: the Mainarde, the Matese and the Abruzzo Apennines. Almost nobody comes here.
