Monte Pasubio — Piccole Dolomiti

Veneto

Monte Pasubio (2,232 m) on the Veneto-Trentino border was the scene of some of WWI's most brutal combat. The Strada delle 52 Gallerie (Road of 52 Tunnels) was drilled through the mountain by Italian troops under fire in 1917 — 6,300 m of tunnels cut through solid rock in months. Walking the route today is extraordinary.
