Piano delle Cinque Miglia, L'Aquila
Abruzzo
The Piano delle Cinque Miglia (1,000–1,100 m) is a large plateau basin in the central Abruzzo Apennines. The plateau is prime wolf hunting territory — 3 packs use the area. Common kestrel hovers over every section of the plateau. In winter the plateau is snow-covered; in summer it blooms with wildflowers. The plateau has a 360° open horizon — rare in the Apennines.
