The Piani di Pollino are a set of high grassy basins reached by a long forest road into the heart of the massif, with the Rifugio De Gasperi hut marking the trailhead for routes toward Serra delle Ciavole and the loricate pines. Even the approach walk crosses open, near-empty high pasture.
