The Piana di Castelluccio (1,452 m) in the Monti Sibillini National Park is a high karstic basin famous for the 'fiorita' — a seasonal flowering of wild poppies, cornflowers and lentil plants that turns the entire plain vivid colours in June. The village of Castelluccio above was largely destroyed in the 2016 earthquake but is being rebuilt. Dogs roam freely on the vast open plain.
