This former Venetian-Spanish fortified plain between Lakes Como and Mezzola has been drained and re-flooded over centuries into one of Lombardy's most important wetland reserves for migratory birds. Reed beds and wet meadows host herons, ospreys on passage, and one of the region's few breeding populations of the elusive corncrake. Straight dike-top paths make for easy, level walking with Alpine peaks framing every horizon.
