Pentedattilo, Aspromonte

Calabria

Pentedattilo ('Five Fingers') is built on a dramatic five-peaked rock above the Ionian coast in Aspromonte. The village was abandoned after the 1783 earthquake that destroyed much of Calabria and is now a picturesque ruin inhabited by only a handful of people. The rock's profile — unmistakeable from the valley — has been called 'the most beautiful crag in Calabria'.
