Passo del Rombo (Timmelsjoch)

The Passo del Rombo (2,509 m) connecting the Ötztal (Austria) to the Passeier valley is the highest paved pass open only in summer on the Italian-Austrian border. The summit plateau has a stark glacial landscape with permanent snow patches and a small border lake. The Ötztal mountains above include Similaun where Ötzi the Iceman was found in 1991. A small alpine information centre is on the Italian side.
