Passo di Monte Croce Carnico

The Passo di Monte Croce Carnico (1,360 m) has been used since antiquity as a crossing between the Carnia and the Gail valley in Austria. A WWI Austrian-Italian military cemetery sits at the pass — 926 soldiers of both sides. The meadows above the pass bloom with Alpine flowers in June–July. Barn owls and short-eared owls hunt the pass meadows in summer evenings.
