Passo dello Spluga, Chiavenna

Lombardy

The Passo dello Spluga (2,115 m) connecting Chiavenna to the Swiss Graubünden has been used since antiquity — Roman road sections are visible on the Italian approach. The pass lake (Lago di Montespluga) sits below the pass in a dramatic basin. Ibex were reintroduced in 2021 to the Italian side. The Cardinello waterfall on the descent to Chiavenna is one of the finest in Lombardy.
