Parco Villa Gregoriana, Tivoli

When Pope Gregory XVI diverted the flood-prone Aniene in 1835 he created this Romantic garden in the gorge below the town: a switchback of paths past the thundering Grande Cascata, the Grotta di Nettuno and the Grotta delle Sirene, up to the Roman temples of Vesta and the Sibyl on the rim.
