Parco Valle del Treja

The Treja river has carved a green, tufa-walled valley here that shelters a surprising density of wildlife for its proximity to Rome, including kingfishers and otters along the quieter stretches. The park's best-known feature above the valley is Calcata, a medieval hamlet perched dramatically on a volcanic tufa outcrop and now home to a small community of artists. Waterfalls and swimming pools dot the valley floor below the village.
