Parco Sirente-Velino — Monte Velino

Monte Velino (2,487 m) is the second-highest peak in the Apennines and the centrepiece of the Sirente-Velino Regional Park. The standard ascent from Massa d'Albe crosses the Amplero plateau and ancient beech forest before reaching the open karst summit plateau. The wolf pack of this park is one of the most studied in Italy. Apennine chamois were reintroduced here in 1989 and now number over 500.
