The Sirente-Velino regional park is Abruzzo's most overlooked protected area. The Sirente plateau has a unique impact crater lake (Lago della Duchessa), wild horse herds and one of the highest wolf densities in Italy. Far fewer visitors than the neighbouring Abruzzo national park.
