Ferdinandea, Parco delle Serre

The Bourbon royal forest of Ferdinandea covers the Serre mountains with dense Calabrian black pine, planted in the 18th century to supply timber for the Bourbon naval fleet. Today the park has old-growth sections where the pines reach 40 m. Wild cats, wolves and Apennine chamois all inhabit the park.
