Roccamonfina Volcano Walk
Campania
Monte Roccamonfina (1,005 m) is an extinct volcano near the Lazio-Campania border. In 2003, three sets of 345,000-year-old hominin footprints were found on its flank — the oldest human footprints in Europe (Homo heidelbergensis). The walk through the chestnut forest on the volcanic cone is beautiful and almost unvisited.
