Abbazia di Staffarda, Parco del Po
Piedmont
The Abbazia di Staffarda (founded 1135) is the best-preserved Cistercian abbey in Piedmont — its cloister, church and farm buildings are virtually intact. The abbey sits inside the Parco Fluviale del Po on a meander of the Maira river. Kingfishers, little egrets, grey herons and black kites breed in the adjacent riverside woodland. The flat Po plain landscape is utterly peaceful.
