Paneveggio — Lagorai Ridge

The Paneveggio forest provided the resonance wood for Stradivari's violins — its Norway spruce grew slowly at altitude producing exceptionally regular annual rings ideal for violin soundboards. The adjacent Lagorai ridge (up to 2,600 m) is the wildest mountain range in the Eastern Alps — granite, not dolomite, and without cable cars. Red deer rut in the Paneveggio in September — the roaring is audible from 2 km.
