Valle del Bonamico, Aspromonte
Calabria
The Valle del Bonamico in the Aspromonte National Park descends through a wild river gorge with Byzantine-era monastic ruins carved into the cliff walls. The area is the heartland of Grecanico culture — the last speakers of a Greek dialect descended from Byzantine (and possibly earlier Magna Graecia) colonists. Wild cat and wolf confirmed. The gorge is one of the wildest in Calabria.
