Gambarie d'Aspromonte (1,350 m) in the Parco Nazionale dell'Aspromonte has old-growth Calabrian black pine (Pinus nigra) forest with trees over 300 years old. Golden eagle is resident. Wildcat confirmed. The area has the southernmost ski slope in continental Italy (used in good snow years). Below the forest the Grecanico Greek-speaking villages of Bova and Roghudi preserve the last Byzantine Greek dialect in Italy.
