The park covers Elba, Giglio, Capraia, Pianosa, Montecristo, Giannutri and Gorgona — nearly the whole Tuscan Archipelago — plus the surrounding sea, one of the largest marine protected areas in Europe. Elba alone ranges from Monte Capanne's granite summit to pine-backed coves, while smaller islands like Montecristo (visits by permit only) and the former prison island Pianosa stay almost untouched.
