Sila Piccola — Lago Ampollino

Calabria

Lago Ampollino (1,278 m) in the Sila Piccola is a reservoir surrounded by old Calabrian black pine (Pinus nigra var. calabrica) — the same subspecies used in reforestation across Europe. The lake and forest have an Alpine feeling completely unexpected in Calabria. Otter is confirmed on the Ampollino stream. Wolf packs use the surrounding forest. The air is cool even in August.
