Parco Naturale delle Alpi Marittime, Cuneo

The Parco Naturale delle Alpi Marittime (28,000 ha) protects the high Maritime Alps above Cuneo — the southernmost Alpine park in Italy. Ibex (reintroduced 1920) now number 600+ individuals. Chamois, golden eagle and wolf are all resident. The Valle Gesso approach from Terme di Valdieri has warm sulphur springs at the valley base and glacier terrain above. The park borders France's Mercantour — a joint biosphere reserve.
