Monte Campo dei Fiori (1,226 m) above Varese is a botanical paradise — the mountain gave the Malpighiaceae family its name through the 18th-century botanist Malpighi who studied here. The Parco Regionale Campo dei Fiori has an astronomical observatory. The summit gives views of Lugano, Maggiore, Varese and the full Alps arc. Roe deer and wild boar are common on the forested slopes.
