The Matese massif straddles the Campania-Molise border and is one of the least visited mountain ranges in Italy. Its high-altitude lake (1,006 m) is surrounded by reeds and backed by Monte Miletto (2,050 m). The near-total absence of tourism means genuine silence and wildlife — herons, otters, marsh harriers.
