The Parco Fluviale del Taro near Parma protects the middle course of the Taro river — a braided Po plain river with extensive gravel bars. Little ringed plover, little tern and common sandpiper all breed on the gravel. Kingfisher is resident. The riparian forest has golden oriole, nightingale and hobby. Dogs run freely on the gravel bars. One of the best birdwatching river parks near Parma.
