The Parco Nazionale del Tepilora (established 2022) in northern Sardinia protects a river valley of ancient cork oak and holm oak through which the Tepilora flows to the Posada lagoon. Sardinian deer (cervo sardo — the smallest deer in Europe) are present. Golden eagle breeds. The cork oak forest has trees over 200 years old. The Posada lagoon at the estuary has flamingo.
