Parco Mediceo di Pratolino (Villa Demidoff)
Tuscany
Buontalenti laid out Pratolino in the 1570s as a garden of grottoes and water tricks; most is gone, but the huge stone-and-brick "Colosso dell'Appennino" still crouches over a pool, and the 19th-century landscape park of oak, cedar and lawns is free to wander, dotted with follies and a chapel by Buontalenti.
