Napoleon's viceroy enclosed nearly 700 hectares of the Lambro plain in 1808 as a royal hunting and farming estate. Today the wall still rings a mix of formal gardens, oak and hornbeam woods, working farms, the river Lambro and — famously — the Formula 1 circuit, all threaded by flat avenues perfect for a long walk.
