Piana di Colfiorito
Umbria
The Piana di Colfiorito is a peat bog at 760 m in a closed Apennine basin — a rare lowland wetland at altitude. The site is protected as a Ramsar wetland: it holds the largest population of Apennine yellow iris (Iris pseudacorus var. bastardii) in Italy, plus white water-lily, marsh orchid and common crane staging in autumn. A 2 km boardwalk circuit is suitable for dogs and families.
