The Groane preserve protects the poor, iron-hard clay soils north-west of Milan, where heather, birch and Scots pine grow and where the clay fed dozens of brick and terracotta kilns — several now restored as monuments. Flat sandy tracks and cycle paths cross it, linking Solaro, Ceriano Laghetto and the Seveso woods.
